Vents are the pipes that are bulging from the flat surfaces. These vent pipes allow gases to pass AND exit safely from your house. These collars typically consist of a metal base, which is made up of aluminium, and a rubber boot later incorporated into the top of the collar. The collar works as an adhesive or tight seal which keeps the rain water and debris, getting into your attic. With time, collar exposure to the heat emitting from the direct sunlight and other harsh weather conditions damages the rubber boot as it wears off due to the heat which results in deterioration and split. This will allow the water to first pool around and then slowly seep through the interior walls of your house causing a huge damage. Deterioration of the underlying metal flashing and roof cement around the vent pipes is also a common occurrence. 

“If the collar is cracked by any means the damage will occur, hence this needs to be replaced as soon as the damage occurs”.
