Use of stain removal products:-
There are many preventative measures that can be carried out to limit the molds and fungus growth on roofs. From many of the available products we have selected the best and most easily available products which are as follows.
Bleach:-
One of the common methods to remove mold from roofs is use of Chlorine Bleach. This chlorine beach is made by adding one part bleach, three parts water and a dash of TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate). Place this solution in a garden sprayer and apply it onto infected roofing area. Instead of scrubbing the solution let it settle for few minutes and rinse afterwards with water. Allowing the solution to be extra potent or letting it settle longer may cause more damage to roof. On asphalt roofs, bleach causes the shingles to stiffen up, become brittle or curl.
Use of lye:-
Other than bleach one other product is Lye (Sodium Hydroxide) solution. However the solution has been prohibited for use because it has resulted in far more damage as compared to the benefits.
Stain Preventative products:-
The most optimal way to avoid any contamination damage to roof is to avoid it altogether. These products not only limit these mold growths but also help in preservation of the roof for many years to come. Few of these preventative products are as follows.
Zinc Strips:-
Zinc Strips are small in sizes that are installed near or on the highest part f the roof. After rain or snow, water tends to dissolve few of this zinc residue material and runs it down the roofing and in turn making a protective layer. This zinc layer acts as a deterrent for fungus growth and in turns preserve the roofing.
Anti Fungal sprays:-
These anti fungal sprays are to be used on short interval periods. If the roof is infected at one time and is made clean by use of bleach or other such material, then to prohibit future fungal growth anti fungal growth sprays are to be sprayed to prevent future incidents.
Fungal resistant roof shingles:-
These Asphalt Roof Shingles are manufactured with an added material named Copper Granules. These types of roof shingles are still not too common but are amongst the ongoing roofing trends that are not only cost effective but also act as a natural defense against any fungal growth.
